I'm watching this after reading it, and really enjoying it! Lum is cute, it's pretty funny, it's a good time, overall.
But I just can't seem to be able to create a successful thread about it.
What are your thoughts on it? On the author's other works? On other older anime and manga?

I know it was a popular manga in the 80s, and its a popular anime with the hipsters of today, but I dont like it. I'd rather read or watch anime adaptations of some of the dirtier manga from the 70s, back when american standards didn't ruin foreign entertainment

So he says, but he might also just be covering his ass. Obama stopped being relevant, and these days people get cancelled left and right for whatever reason. It's not really worth the hassle. Fortunately there's still snapshots on archive.org.

Yeah; it happens both ways too, see "incel" and "snowflake" for instance. dunno if that phenomenon has a name or not

Funny pattern I've noticed is that a small handful liberals will use a term for like a week, then conservatives will start using that word in a mocking manner. This eventually spreads its way to the rest of the web from 4chan to twitter to youtube to reddit to twitter, and then everyone is using the term mockingly, even though liberals don't say it and barely even used it in the first place.

"Canceled" and "woke" and "problematic" are probably the most famous ones, but there's a lot more.

Anyone here currently living in japan?
If so, how did you do it?
I'm recently considering to move there, my life here is just not going where I wanted it to go. I'm about to drop out of my studies, and I don't have any direction at all after that. I'm just getting older and older and the way this is going I'm either going to off myself in a few years or ill work some stupid job at a burger restaurant or something. And if that's the case I might aswell do that in japan right?
What I been considering is that I would go there on a tourist visa which would give me 90 days to find a job there, and then change it to a work visa which would increase the period up to 5 years. My japanese is about N2-3 so that should suffice but obviously I still have to brush up on it.
But it does seem very risky. I'm not sure how easy it is to find work as a foreigner since they don't seem to be too liked there.
Just felt like writing all this I don't know. If you got some input or whatever feel free.

I would usually have the same opinion on this actually.
But my home country hasn't been that pleasant to live in either in the recent years. If I was in japan I could at least indulge in my hobbies properly, which I can't do here.

About the stress of working there, I don't know how hard that would apply if I just worked some trashy job at a fastfood place or whatever else, but I guess I won't do too good with work either way so it's probably somewhat similar?

Japan is not some promised land unless you are wapanese. I have the sneaking suspicion their media is so good because of what awaits them after high school. It's like crack cocaine to the rest of the world. If you do move to Japan, you'll likely be making it a worse place and the hive mind does not look kindly on that.

名無しさん 2020-10-15T16:09:05
Most of the posts were arguing about refugees. Originally the argument concluded with people losing interest, until some dickhead showed up and started bumping it, trying to reignite things

Vermin deleted all of the posts made after the argument started, probably because he didn't want that sort of thread cluttering up the board and attracting undesirables to the site.

Also the site has changed a lot. It used to be that we could make text-only threads where posting images was prohibited. And I mean, the only real difference between imageboards and textboards is the images. Other than that it's the "feel" of it, and I think this site has more of a textboard "feel" than your average imageboard does.

Today I confirmed my X/i3/lightdm doesn't like to get up at morning.
I wake up and startup my debian install, all's nominal.
I log in and it crashes, going back to the greeter screen.
I just go to a console and do my shit, suspecting there's some Y2K fuckery going on.
When 10 am rolls in, I restart the lightdm service and log in, successfully.

What a shithole this software is.

>I doubt anyone who's ever typed "startx" has ever been invited to a party.

i used to dj parties with a dm-less netbook. i used an application called xwax which is an open source digivinyl player (in ncurses). digivinyl uses records pressed with a timecode tone (made for proprietary systems like serato or traktor) and plays audio files at the playback rate instructed by the timecode tone. if you pitch down (playback speed down) your turntable 6%, it slows the mp3 down 6%. so this would allow you to beatmatch and mix two different mp3s using vinyl on turntables as a user interface. one of my friends even scratched with it. i never learned how to scratch, but on the other hand my scratching friend never learned how to use computers. anyway i typed `startx' on that debian netbook a lot and have been invited to many parties so anon has failed to consider a corner case.

I keep on getting ones about health insurance. What's creepy is that this robot can tell when you say hello. If I don't say anything it says it's lines about health insurance but if I say "hi" or "hello" to it before it speaks it says "hello" before launching into the health insurance lines.
