File: jello.swf (SWF, 33.97 KB)
I nominate this flash to be put up for the banner.
PROS:
Very small size
Makes noise but not when you're trying to watch a flash in a different tab
Interactive

CONS:
No text proclaiming it is about 4taba
Not custom made etc
Some people don't like jello

I could figure out how to edit in some text with JPEX so unless someone wants to do that for this file or make a 4taba specific flash, this gets my vote until i see the other nominations.

It's the first flash I've ever made but I'm open for any suggestions.
You can click the flash itself to toggle the music.
I didn't make the animation itself but I thought it would be cool for a banner.
The dimensions are 325x125, just like the normal banners

I couldn't post it here for some reason so here it is: https://u.teknik.io/8RYUU.swf

There's open source implementations, just compile one of those. I think one even had a browser plugin.

Thanks for this, I like it a lot. It's been added to the top of /f/. Sorry it took me so long to install flash lol.
Now I'll see if I can add that [Embed] button in the next couple of days

Alright there is an [Embed] button on /f/ now. It's still sort of crude, right now the button only works if it's SWF (not the html5 ones) and it uses a fixed window size of 400x400. I need to figure out a way for the server to the real size of flash videos (if anyone knows any python libraries or CLI tools for it let me know).

Also you may need to clear your cache before it starts working. It just needs 2 new functions that were added to "main.js"

Are you going to add an embed button to file-replies as well? Like this thread for example: http://4taba.net/f/22
»
17 Anonymous 2019-06-03T17:14:41
>>16
I was thinking that too. But I'm still not sure if flash replies within threads are something people want or not.
I haven't gotten any clear feedback on that. 4chan's /f/ doesn't allow them of course, so I'm not sure what's best (also a similar question I'm not sure of is whether to allow flash uploads on other boards or not).
But anyway, it should be pretty straightforward to add the same pop-up embedding on normal posts

>But I'm still not sure if flash replies within threads are something people want or not.

I think it would 4taba's /f/ different from the rest. Adding the embed button was definitely the best thing to do right now since every other chan with a flash board have admins that don't give a shit enough to add one. There's an 85% chance 4chan's /f/ is getting removed next year meaning word will get around (some people are contemplating using 22chan's /f/ because there's an embed button so there's an extremely high chance more /f/ags will be using 4taba too)
>also a similar question I'm not sure of is whether to allow flash uploads on other boards or not

I don't really see the point in that since that's what /f/ is for.

No one is seriously contemplating using that cancerous kraut shithole besides their teenbro astroturfers.

Agreed then. I think while I'm at it I'll also just allow any filetype at all to be posted inside /f/ threads (but the OP will still be flash only of course).
Then inside threads the flash/html5 thumbnail will act as an embed button.
And flash/html5 will continue to only be accepted on the /f/ board.

I'm surprised to hear more imageboards aren't supporting flash though. I think that just motivates me more to get something nice working here.
I mean, I'm not a fan of flash itself (as a bloated technology) but I can't deny how much great stuff was made in flash (and wouldn't even exist today if it weren't for it). It would really be a shame if it all just died without even a replacement technology to take its place.

I'm confused, you don't mean that you can post .txt files, for example, in /f/ threads, right? Did you mean that you can also post html5 posts as well?

Actual SWF resolution detection is now enabled >>>/f/64/2

Although I noticed some of the files didn't report any resolution at all or they were set to something like 0x0 or 5x5. And some of the games were showing up around 25x25 or something.
So I set 640x480 to be a minimum. Is that acceptable or will it cause problems?

24 Anonymous 2019-06-30T19:25:18
>>22
Any accepted filetype, so that would include html5 and even image files. Let me know if that's not a good idea, I trust all of your experiences to know what's good for /f/ more than my own.
Also I'm making this sticky global for now. Before it was only sticky on /f/.

Flashes appearing all the way to the left still irks me. I know it's a work in progress but in the meantime do you think you could fix that?

Some really small flashes stretched out to 640x480 might look shitty but it's fine for now. Main issue is what >>25 says

27 Anonymous 2019-06-30T20:53:40
Also I just made it so flash will embed anywhere, just click the thumbnail.

Sorry if the servers been going down and you're seeing any "internal server error"'s, I've been restarting the server a few times. I should probably come up with a more elegant way to restart so I don't accidentally interrupt anyone uploading files or something.

>>25
What do you mean all the way to the left? On my screen it's horizontally centered in the page.
What browsers are you using?

>>26
Well it's easy enough to detect the ones that report 0x0 and just set those to 640x480.
The but for instance look https://4taba.net/f/61 see how its file size is 26x25? Is that acceptable? Seems like it would be unplayable at that size and you'd have to go fullscreen.
Do you happen to know what file size shows up if you upload it to 4chan? Maybe the way I'm detecting the size needs improvement?

Mozilla user here. Why does the box disappear when I tap the play button on a flash or click the box
»
31 Anonymous 2019-07-06T17:09:50

It shouldn't. Probably the click event is trickling down to parent containers, I'll try to fix this too.

32 Anonymous 2019-08-25T03:34:47
Ok embedded flash windows should be centered on chromium now, and also clicking inside the flash window should no longer close it.
Let me know if there's still issues.
»
33 Anonymous 2019-08-25T17:37:03
Thanks for centering the box, but now I can't exit out of an embedded flash file when I click on it

34 Anonymous 2019-08-26T01:24:00

Even when you click the X? Before it was applying the event to the transparent black background so you could click off it that way, but I since changed it to only close the window if you click the X

No

Why? Just to make this /f/ board different from the rest?
»

>>35
I changed it because someone said it was closing when they clicked anywhere, even in the flash window itself, which is obviously a problem.
So I thought making the event only apply to the X button only would fix it, but I guess not. I'll keep trying.

Can you try clearing your cache and trying it again?
I can't reproduce the issue, I've tested it in chromium and clicking the X closes the popup as expected.
It's a pretty straightforward Javascript function, I really can't imagine why it's not working for you unless you somehow still have an older version of the "main.js" file. Clearing the cache could fix it.
»
38 Anonymous 2019-09-12T18:13:03
On second thought I have a question for /f/
I still want to migrate to less Javascript overall whenever possible, so do we really need dynamic embedding at all? What if it simply opened a new page with the flash window embedded into it so it would still be centered and have the proper dimensions applied, but wouldn't require Javascript?
»
39 Anonymous 2019-09-12T22:29:59
>>38
I honestly never used the embed feature. Some older versions of chrome won't run flash otherwise but I don't think anyone cares that much. As long as clicking on the filename still opens to the file I'll be happy.
