Sort of off-topic, but...One of the secret penalties of smartphones becoming ubiquitous is some great scenery art being drawn in this 2:1 ratio instead of the usual landscape format. It's very unfortunate. I mean, wide images are even referred to as landscape with vertical images being referred to as portrait.
I think the portrait orientation has some benefits for scenery images >>3. It can communicate scale in a significant way, giving the viewer the sense that they're looking up at something and maybe even making them feel a bit small.
