There's On War by Carl von Clausewitz, which is about his theories and thinkings on conflicts, strategies and their effects on militaries and also politics (because as you'd expect, military and politics are often intertwined with each other). There is also The Influence of Sea Power upon History by Alfred Thayer Mahan, which gives you a brief but good look at the history of naval warfare, and one that has also quite possibly shaped naval warfare to how we know of it today. There is also Air Power by Stephen Budiansky which is about the history of aerial warfare. These suggestions are all off the top of my mind, do feel free to explore for more. Here's another something: Solaris by Stanisław Lem. It's a science-fiction novel and a classic one at that; in which the concepts of extraterrestial intelligence, communication with them, and the limitations of the somewhat-humble humanity, are explored in a very philosophical manner. I don't personally know how good the Polish-to-English translation is, since I can't speak Polish, but I figured I should share it regardless. |
