> hostile elitism
there is no elitism, you might think you're better than people who greentext but it's just pointless hostility and makes the place nasty and uncomfy. 4chan /a/ and /jp/ is always open if you want a board exactly like that.

> green memepost

It's actually whiners that ruin sites. complaining about the way people express themselves is retarded. and whining about memes when you're using the 'who are you quoting' meme? retarded.

I just want you to realize you aren't better than these people because you (think) you have X years more experience and knowledge of /jp/ memes, in fact this type of posting ruins sites. Try to have fun here instead of autistically bullying people about the correct use of some piece of markup that took on a different purpose than what you're used to.

nice pic "everyone I don't like is part of a group we don't like around here".

"Be descriptive, not prescriptive! There's no cause for you to make value judgements about other people using the quote feature in a way different from how you're expecting. It doesn't hurt you and I'm sure you'll pick up quite quickly when people are using it as a direct quote and when they are (sometimes humorously) paraphrasing after you've been here a while."

Admin here. I thought this might be a good opportunity to point out how I wanted this site to be different. There was always complaining, immaturity, and shitposting. A better way to put it in general is that you now seem to have more people trying to change the behavior of others online.
Which I think is largely caused by moderation. They're trying to define what the board is to influence how its run almost as if complaints are votes. Even if mods don't see them it's still an attempt to spread their opinion around which will eventually have an effect on what's considered "acceptable" on a board.

That's why I think moderation is the single biggest problem. If everyone knew that no matter how many people you convince that topic X is terrible it'll never be banned from the site, do you think you'd still get as many people popping in to say "This topic sucks"?
and if they did it would probably be more creative and interesting than a 1 liner.

That's what I was hoping we could accomplish here, giving OP's the ability to hide things and having a board watcher so you wouldn't have to see the same threads over and over on the front page, would allow us to have almost no moderation otherwise (aside from keeping some basic order).

I actually had that idea years ago, but deletion instead of hiding. I get that you probably don't want censorship though one problem is people will probably still reply to the hidden post anyway.

Anyway, >>22, listen to me here. It's not really related to the thread, but whatever. So, I went to /jp/ the other day. /jp/. The place was packed and I couldn't get a post in anywhere for some reason. Then, I notice the header up top and I see "Otaku Culture" written on it. "Are you stupid? Are you idiots?" I thought. You don't just come to /jp/ for otaku culture, you fools. It's otaku culture, O-T-A-K-U CULTURE for christ's sake. There's even groups of friends here. Out for some /jp/ with the bros, huh? How fucking nice. "LOL anime is so weird!" God, I can't bear to watch. You people, I'll give you otaku culture if you just get out of /jp/. /jp/ ought to be a more violent place. That tense atmosphere where a flamewar could start between the guy on the other side of this shitpost at any moment, troll or get trolled. That's what's great about this place. Normalfags can fuck off back to reddit. So anyway, I'm finally about to start posting, and then the guy next to me says "2hu with extra flanfly". I lose it again. Look, flanfly isn't funny anymore around here. Dumbass. What are you looking so smug for? I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want that flanfly?" I want to interrogate him. Interrogate him for an hour. Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "flanfly"? If you ask a truneet such as myself, the best meme on /jp/ now is hoopdog. Thats right. Hoopdog with seven hoops. This is the truneet's way of posting. With seven hoops you get maximum replies, but the thread blows up. And then, its a shit. A big one. A grat one. However, there's a chance you'll get marked by meido from then on, so its a double-edged sword. I can't recommend it to newfags. What I mean by all this, >>22, is that you should just stick to the wch2hu thread.

I played voltex in japan in arcades for way too much money.
Kind of feel like getting a controller, they seem extremely pricey though.
Any way to get one below 250?

Also japanese arcades were so fucking good I miss it so much..

I recently got back from Japan and looking back on it, I really should have budgeted more for Beatmania.
I had never played prior to showing up at an arcade and deciding that I liked some of the music and I should try my hand. Three hours and multiple thousands of yen later, I had only just begun. I spent at least every other night out at arcades for the rest of my trip, getting tips from locals and exploring the myriad options for entertainment in each unique complex. I'm so glad there is a Round One coming to my area next summer.

On that note, is it possible to play Beatmania on a PC? I know there was a playstation game back in the day with corresponding controller, but was there any sort of PC port or clone that can be played with a keyboard or MIDI controller?
»
54 Player 2019-11-25T05:57:35
>>53 There's plenty of clones if that's what you mean. I don't know if you can expect very much high quality from them though, since most of the stuff is community-contributed. I know of Stepmania, and of course osu!. I think either should work with a midi keyboard, assuming your operating system treats it as just another input device (basically, it'll probably be iffy if you use Windows. you might even have to install an extra program for it)

Are you emulating on MAME or something? I was just thinking the other day that I need to get back to playing some arcade games on it. I had the "goodset" of MAME stuff like 15 years ago, but a hard drive died and I didn't have the motivation to start over.

Stepmania is a PC game, but it is often used for arcade machines, and is the basis of some arcade rhythm games entirely. Being honest, I only recently started playing with it due to a certain other game becoming popular. I hadn't been a rhythm game type prior, and grew curious about them and how they played.

Friday Night Funk? I tried that one for the heck of it and I can't really enjoy the DDR-style inputs which I assume is the same thing as Stepmania. Stylized inputs like here in Theatrhythm (3DS) or the Vocaloid games let me ramp up the difficulty, and they also seem far more attuned to the song. I think too many supposed rhythm games just throw out a billion inputs for difficulty and it's not even related to the song at that point.

I like to sometimes play with Stepmania. Using the keyboard, with only two index fingers. I'm not good at it either, I have to set it so that the arrows come at a constant speed because I just can't adjust to speed changes, not even across songs but especially not during songs.

Caught my in an instant >>66. I stumbled on FnF and tried it out in curiosity, then quickly heard about Stepmania in discussions about that game.
Stepmania being an open source game that relies on its community for content, I had to do some digging to find songs and maps that weren't aggressively technical. Even maps said to be easy often opened up with a dense flood of notes I couldn't read. After finding appropriately newbie friendly stuff, I was actually able to start learning common patterns and how maps are built.

It seems, for Stepmania in this case, the notes are set to some part of the song, it's just that designers often pick parts of the song that have a bunch of notes to play, especially for hard songs, but this is still true in "easy" songs. I have a mechanical keyboard, so I can actually hear the stuff I play matching with the song...though this doesn't make it anymore welcoming.
With all that said, I ended up having fun, and my interest in the genre increased.

I'm kind of taken aback to find that there is a controversy about whether this is a rhythm game or not. I shouldn't be surprised given this is the internet, but it seems to bring some genuine annoyance out of some people.
