How do you feel about the Nintendo Switch?
Personally, it's the first console since the original Wii that's getting me quite interested. Aside from the few very nice titles there are already, especially regarding the indie shelf, I have high hopes for it to become the successor of the PSP regarding emulators / homebrews in general. Of course there's no guarantee for this yet, but it does not seem that unlikely either. Among other great stuff, just imagine being able to run Dolphin on that thing. Keeping an eye out for mods in general can't hurt either.

What do you think?

The reviews make it seem very, very disappointing. I think the console industry will die before or during generation 10 consoles.

Do they? I haven't gotten one, yet, since I'm not rich.

Do you follow wololo.net?
They cover cracking and reverse engineering of consoles. It's mainly PSV focused but sometimes they write about the Switch too

I too don't have a Switch or Wii U. But all the reviews that are by actual people, and not by big companies like IGN show that there are serious issues, like the dock scratching the screen and stuff, and loads of glitchiness.

Shall read.

Almost every single day since the Switch came out.
It's kinda discouraging if you think about just how long this might actually take, if it happens at all.

>>5
This is true, however the screen-scratching issue seems to be easily fixed by simply putting a piece of microfiber cloth between the Switch and the dock. Doesn't excuse Nintendo's sloppiness, but at least there's a quick fix available for basically no additional cost at all. Not so much for the rest, it seems.
Isn't there the possibility of a revised version of the console to come up sometime in the future?

Like the New 3DS? The New 3DS coming out was like a slap in the face to 3DS owners. But you're right, maybe I should wait for a New Switch.

Exactly like that. I for one don't have the spare money for the Switch available at the moment anyway, so waiting isn't a problem as of right now.
The bad news is that, now that I've researched how long it took for the New 3DS and PSP-2000 to supersede their original versions, it might take up to 3 years or even longer. Same with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Only positive thing here I see regarding the Switch is that it might just happen a bit earlier due to the (seemingly many) flaws the Switch had at launch. Just a speculation though.

Good concept, however not enough games yet for me to justify dropping serious cash on it.
Hopefully around the end of the year it should have a richer library, that is if Nintendo can manage to woo developers to take advantage of the concept rather than just port the latest AAA dumpster fire.

I bought one with the money I got for christmas. so far I like it!
I was playing mario odyssey the other day and my family wanted to go eat dinner. now with any console or PC this obviously means you won't be able to keep playing the game, but not on the switch! I was able to keep playing mario odyssey on the restaurant.
I thought the whole "portable" thing was just a gimmick but I've honestly fallen in love with it!
and plus you get the cool nintendo games so I'd say that the switch is worth it.

I just got one too. So far all I got was the Senran Kagura molesting game, I'm waiting for Zelda to arrive. The main thing that sold me on the switch was the upcoming Megami Tensei game. I probably wouldn't have got it if that wasn't an exclusive.

I will buy it when Animal Crossing Switch comes out. No amiibo bullshit please nintendo.
Story of Seasons might be cool too I guess.

and as for the amiibos, I actually like them.
they look nice on my shelf and add unnecessary but cool content to the game

I was referring more to that "Animal Crossing" Wii U game they made. I don't know what they were thinking when they made that. Money probably.
Can't say I care much for amiibos, but I own a few figures myself so who am I to judge.

I don't like paying more than ~$10 for anything digital-only, I like having physical copies, and it was $13 cheaper used.

>>11 I can't find senran kagura by searching it on the eshop. is it only in japan or something?
»
18 Player 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>17 yes. you need to make a japanese account https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R4IQ8yOt8w
making the account is easy. the real hassle is you need to get a japanese scratch card off of ebay. the cheapest one is $17. also, after you create the account, the english news will be out numbered by the japanese ones. and if you don't know japanese, you wont be able to understand the game.
this didn't stop me from getting it though, I'm just warning you. I don't know if senran kagura will get an english version, but if it will, you should probably just wait for that.

I think Nintendo's shooting themselves in the foot. Making an unnecessary successor console to the Wii U, that can't do much more than it can? Giving it possibly even LESS support than that thing which seems to have "failed" in their eyes? They're crazy.

1- the switch is NOT a successor to the wii u. they are 2 different things
2- its actually doing very damn well. the wii u had only sold like a million at this point and the switch has already past 3 million

I think I read somewhere that Nintendo is doing better than they've done in a decade.

25 Player 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Much like the Wii and Wii U the theme will be "wasted potential". I don't expect (m)any games to make use of all the stuff they showed off and instead it will just be games played straight. When I first saw the Wii I was picturing sword fights and such, but it the end result was just an awkward controller that I used to play games identical to the way I did previously.

Once the whole piracy thing is finalized I'll buy one. I just don't have the money to buy enough games to make the console purchase worthwhile otherwise. I'd look forward to a moonlight homebrew to project PC to the tablet and play from bed as well. I'd seriously try to build a holder for the screen so I could just have my arms rested even with my body. It would be amazing.

I have one, bought last July. It's awesome and all the games I have on it are all from good to excellent. Portability really makes some stuff shine more than usual but of course the console itself has its shortcomings. No cloud saves, small internal memory, the joy-cons feel a little unstable when attached to the console, graphics can get horrible in portable mode (looking at you, Xenoblade 2. Fire Emblem Warriors sometimes actually crashes if you start musou attacks when there are too many enemies). But it's nowhere near the pile of crap most shitposters paint it, it's actually a breath of fresh air on the concept of console itself. Honestly it's a little overpriced maybe but I could afford it so I jumped in. Oh battery life isn't the best but we're around 3 hours which is what PS Vita and New 3DS lasted depending on what was running. It's basically what the WiiU had to be years ago

I might add that Switch made me and my friends discover couch co-op again. You can set up some improvised multiplayer everywhere and there's a ton of fun titles which are perfect for this: Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Crawl, Nine Parchments, Snipperclips, Pac-man championship, and the list goes on.

So far, nintendo's games have disappointed me. Super Mario Odyssey was short, repetitive and focused too much on finding moons instead of actual platforming. Zelda Breath of the Wild felt too much like Skyrim (a game which I do NOT like), it also just didn't feel like a "real" Zelda game. Kirby was repetitive and waaaaaayyy too short. The only game I've genuinely liked is splatoon 2! And although the new online modes are nice, it's not really that much different from the original. I've actually been having more fun with some small indie games you can find on the e-shop than with official nintendo games . Currently I've been playing (and I'm about to finish) Sushi Striker! After that, I'm probably gonna buy Icey, a cool fourth wall breaking side scrolling game with an anime art style. I also wanna buy Nekopara because I'm aching to play VNs on my switch.
