What do you already know of.

No matter what I played on 3ds it all felt to me like minigames made to kill time.

I should dig through my DS games to find what I like.
The Layton games and all of Pokemon Gen 4, including Ranger and PMD, are what come to me immediately. Also NSMB 1.

That's handheld gaming in general. You're not supposed to play them at your house, you're supposed to play them when you're at the bus stop or on a trip

Not entirely. That helps, but I always felt the best thing about handheld games is that I could play them in bed.
As for good DS games, my favourites were the Etrian Odyssey/Sekaiju no MeiQ series. A few other ones I liked were Ghost Trick, the DS Dragon Quest titles, Atelier Annie, Akumajo Dracula: Ubawareta Kokuin/Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

GTA Chinatown Wars

Some of my favorites on the ds were the Shin Megami Tensei games, feel the magic, and animal crossing wild world. ^All the games that others posted above are also great games.
