Anyone seen this yet? I watched it last night on CN. The most impressive stuff in the movie was animated by porigoshi unsurprisingly. The music was also good, and that nosebleed Steven got when he was punched surprised me. I almost wish this wasn't a TV movie

I didn't, but I wish I did. What I've seen of it on YouTube looks really good.

SU is very popular in Japan lol. OP even mentioned one of their animators that also works at Trigger

I actually like su, but I never talk about it online because I get the feeling it'd just attract a shitton of /pol/fags screaming tranny left and right.
Some of the animation is pretty decent, so I can see it having a connection with japanese animators. I might rewatch the whole series and then see if someone's uploaded the movie so I can download it for free by then.

The fanbase of the show may not help either. It's the same with undertale, I liked it and the sequel but I don't reccomend going into a place on the internet dedicated to it unless you're a sperg.

It happens with anything mildly popular. It's not something exclusive to SU or Undertale.

Honestly most of the animation in SU is usually pretty stiff unless it's an episode where they hire that same guy from studio trigger to do flowy cutsie animation for one music sequence. I liked the show's BGM in the first season but after S1 it was pretty much completely lacking of variety. Also people say season 1 is the weakest season but it had some of the best lighting/complex shading the show has ever had. All of the dramatic impactful moments are basically from episode 30 of season 1 to the cluster arc.

I wish the whole show looked like the pilot. It was much closer in style to the comics and short films Sugar made before working at cartoon network.

Doubt it, if I were to search Metallica and ended up getting MLP art, I'd be pissed off.
But there's also this extreme attachment to the characters these people have, that would think not agreeing with them is like you're hurting a real person. It's ridiculous.

You can't write fanfiction about Metallica, nor can you create fan theories.

But to answer your question more properly, SU is a show aimed at highschool age girls, AKA the most emotional people on earth.

That's true, though it's not impossible, I'm pretty sure some guy on the internet has made his "Lars lobotomizes the band Clockwork Orange style" fanfiction.
>But to answer your question more properly, SU is a show aimed at highschool age girls, AKA the most emotional people on earth.

That's the biggest gripe. You finally nailed it to a teeth. And emotional people tend to be pretty vocal and is really easy to appeal to emotions so that narrows it down even more.

I only really got into SU after I'd stopped watching it for a while. When I started watching it again I'd been pretty much completely isolated from internet discussion on the show, allowing me to appreciate it on its own merits

And that's the thing about SU; it's yet another victim of the internet hype machine.

When a show does something moderatly impressive the 13 year olds who've only watched ten cartoons at most think it's the coolest shit on earth and make a massive deal of it. This gets the attention of people who actually know cartoons, and they go in expecting it to be the next AtLA. When it inevitably isn't, they leave feeling like the show itself cheated them.

The only way to enjoy cartoons again is to remove yourself from most of the discussion surrounding them online.
