Since 8/jp/ doesn't need this site any more and since there's hardly anyone here, there's no harm in changing things up in crazy ways. I originally started making this just to experiment with various features anyway.

I've had a few ideas.
For starters, big imageboards tend to be more like chatrooms, and although I haven't used a forum in forever I still think there's some value in the slower feeling of forums. So one idea might be to slow down the speed of an imageboard by only serving a static board that doesn't show live posts. People can view the old posts and make replies all day, but the replies don't show up until some fixed time every 24 hours (or every 6 hours or whatever) when the entire site updates to display all the new posts that were made in that period.
This way you could just come and check out the site like once or twice a day instead of having the feeling of being stuck constantly checking threads for new replies. If a big imageboard behaved that way I wonder if it would encourage people to spend more time creating interesting content or coming up with original thoughts of their own before posting, and also cool down hot heads so arguments will probably be much shorter lived.

Another idea might be to have something like 2 channels for each thread, side by side. One would be for lower quality comments, arguments, or things you want to say to one person that isn't relevant to the whole thread (sort of similar to when you sage your post knowing that it doesn't deserve to bump the thread), and the other channel for things that you think everyone should see. Of course this wouldn't be moderated at all or anything, it would just be up to each poster to decide which one to use.

If anyone has any other interesting or weird ideas I'd like to hear them too, or let me know what you think of the 2 above.

cool idea about the forum thing

I like the attitude behind teh 24 hour idea except in practice I would rather the posts are not held in waiting.

maybe it would be a different better experience though. It might encourage longer posts and pre-empt replies and try to make more solid points.

this is actually awesome. How about every 6 hours?

both very interesting ideas
i think the refresh rate should shorter than 24. probably 12.
the double channel thing seems like it would be abused and misused a lot

It's just so different it's hard really imagine what the outcome would be like.

I just wanted to say that both ideas should be toggle-able for boards. Maybe having slowed down posts or two part-threads like you suggested is good for one board, but it might be bad or not have much use on another.

Added Oekaki. Just grabbed the code from here: https://github.com/Leimi/drawingboard.js#drawingboardjs
It loads up jQuery though when you click the "Load Oekaki" button so I might try to find a different drawing application at some point that doesn't use jQuery.

I also added an Email field feature "kiru" (means to cut) which allows you to post without a post number. Just an experiment, but it seems like it could be a nice thing to have.

What about just making this fully a textboard instead of an imageboard? Then there could really be no mods

If you want to get rid of the spammer, make a black list of words in his images and use tesseract-ocr. The lynxchan guy is doing the same.

Might as well since the traffic is so low. It's not like the server needs to save the CPU cycles for anything.

Howdy doody, I'm the anon that you were chatting a bit with on that /qa/ thread, I'm going off to bed after this, but thanks for bringing your site to attention.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to do the OCR thing that you mentioned someone mentioning. There are a lot of threads about this site scattered all over, so I'm not sure what's been mentioned or not, sorry!

I wouldn't want you to get in trouble for people posting cheese pizza though. From what I've heard from people who run the archiving services for 2+2 have to stay constantly vigilant or else when the host catches wind of it, the majority of the time they just pull the plug when they catch wind of stuff like that going down.

I'm not exactly sure what system those archive services have in place to get those removed quickly. Maybe they do the OCR thing too?

That's a pretty good reason to have the site be open source. If it goes down for whatever reason, or if the current host just sucks, someone else can remake it.

I think the 24 hour wait thing should be restricted to one board, like how /r9k/'s robot works on 4chan.

What if you had a question about someone's argument, where the answer to it is necessary for making a lengthy response? Instead of being able to gather more information in a couple of minutes, it would suddenly take 6 hours to get a reply to a basic question, and an additional 6 hours to post your counterargument. You'd really need to have all the information you need to hold your own, or else you could lose interest very quickly.

This thread is old and from when the site was completely dead, it doesn't really apply any more, those ideas were abandoned. I'll still change things that everyone wants to see changed, but now that people seem to be checking the site out daily we have to be more careful.

I saw your mention of this site on 4chan's /qa/ board, and it's actually growing on me very quickly. It obviously has less content for me to read, which is bad, but it's so small that posting is easy (no Captchas <3 ), and I only started visiting 4chan on my way to naughty porno websites anyway, so in fact, having less content means I save time.

I really like the visual style, although more things should be clickable to streamline the experience.

Also, why do you have sage? Nobody here is trolling, so what's wrong with bumping threads? I keep hovering my mouse cursor over the word "Anonymous" in people's posts, because it looks like a link but it's just someone saging the thread, even though it's a decent reply to a decent thread.

>but it's just someone saging the thread, even though it's a decent reply to a decent thread.

You've clearly been brainwashed by all those faggots who have no idea what sage is for.

There are tons of reasons to not bump threads that have nothing to do with quality, or shitposting, or being a dick, or anything mean at all.
If you look at other imageboards or textboards (especially Japanese ones) you'll see lots of really positive or high quality posts that are saged. Just sage if you don't feel like bumping the thread to the top, that's really all there is to it. People read into it too much and turned it into something it was never supposed to be.

For example, this thread is completely irrelevant now >>16 the admin even said so. There's no point in bumping it to the top of the board. I can leave this comment for you to see, and that's all that's needed so I'm saging. I don't need the whole site to see this comment. I can always just link here later if someone asks about sage in another thread.
