Originally we had a rule where the "unofficial boards" were
>not for creating a home for outside material and exist for the targeted demographics of the official boards

which of course would also require that things like this could be deleted from official boards as well.

But it seemed people didn't like having rules like that on a small site so I removed them.

Please give me your input.
I think I want to add the following global rules back:
* Certain inappropriate images (depending on the board) can be deleted by mods, for example furry or gore or 3D porn on boards like /a/.
* Unofficial boards are for the user interests of the main boards, not to create places for any content you want.

What do you guys think? Personally I think the first rule is definitely needed or else you'll just get furry, porn, and gore spam on basically any board, and I think it's simple enough that it shouldn't cause problems since it's fairly basic and only about deleting the image not the entire post.

But what about the second rule?
One possibility is to just not show threads from unofficial boards on /all/ and let people use them for anything (legal). Or should we keep the interests of unofficial boards limited to those of the official boards?

lmao there are 3 threads on /b/. This site is still just /jp/ and a few people who show up, make a post and leave again.

I find it amazing that you even care so much about this shit. If I were mod I'd be way too lazy to philosophize about ruleshittery on a site with like 1/2 posts a day.

Imo you should just take it easy and let everyone do whatever they want; everything else is wasted effort unless this place miraculously become really active.

>I find it amazing that you even care so much about this shit.

It's a curse (or maybe autism).
Also it's because I never wanted to make "just another imageboard". The whole point was to make a site where nobody had to ever think about mods. Not really because I'm one of those people who hates mods all the time, but because I was sick and tired of all the complaining about mods and calling sites shit just because of their mods and that sort of thing.
I thought what everyone needed was a new format, maybe even with subtle changes that you don't really think make a difference but somehow just works in an almost mod-free environment.
I know you can't completely get rid of it, but the next best thing is to aim for predictability. At that point mods might as well be robots and hopefully everyone will know what they're getting when they use the site and it won't be an issue.

I mean, I can easily keep this site up if all you want is just another bunker like any other imageboard.
But if I can't figure out a way to make everyone happy with a minimal level of rules/moderation in a way that just seems to work without letting cancerous things get too out of hand then this project was a failure.

I understand what you're trying to do. You're just putting too much thought into it imo. Right now this is just a small offshoot site, and I doubt that is going to change. Nobody except jaypee and the occasional visitor even browses this place atm.

Just keep deleting illegal stuff and take it easy. If the site grows significantly for some reason we can still think about adding some regulations depending on how it turns out.

Also, there will never be a "perfect" systen. Incline and decline are inevitable facts of imageboard existence. I kind of like the idea of having two "versions" for each board; one moderated and one unmoderated. If the board mod "deletes" something it is merely hidden on the moderated side while still showing up on the unmoderated one. This way, people can choose which way they want their board to work and everyone can be happy. Again, implementing something like that would only make sense on a board that is at least as big as 8ch's top boards though.

Well what I meant is I was thinking all that was going to sort of be the "hook" for this site that would make people want to use it. So that's why I've been putting so much thought into it.

But I can dial it back a bit.

Furfag dumper here. I like what >>6 suggested, myself. Though, if there would be user-based board moderators, I'd suggest making it an option to mark and unmark a board as NSFW and maybe add an option to only show SFW stuff in /all/.

Just for the record, though, I made that thread sort of as a test to see what you would do, and as it turns out, your actions were inconsistent with what you laid out in your Rules and FAQ. For any kind of website, let alone one that focuses on respecting the user's freedom of speech, that worries me. Other than that, I still like your site so far. Very simple and cozy. Keep up the good work.

I think your not realizing their are people who thrive off of making mod drama, they live to go after moderators, its what they do for fun, think /cow/ but for admins of websites.
They will simply make things up if they have to to cause drama

>and as it turns out, your actions were inconsistent

Well for the record it wasn't me who deleted it. Right now it's me and 8/jp/mod who have mod access.

I'll just be direct about this, I thought I had things figured out as far as how the site was going to be run but I'm having doubts about it, and when I altered the FAQ to remove the rules (the ones in the OP) at the request of some users, I should have just taken that section out entirely. So I didn't delete the fury thread because I was aware of how my mistake would make it inconsistent. But it's fine that the other mod did anyway.

I hope nobody is alarmed by all this talk of rules, because the goals here still haven't changed, we want it to be as light as possible and I'm only thinking about some very basic stuff that would need to be in place if the site ever got big.

But I know some people prefer more of a personal touch on smaller sites and just don't trust rules, so we'll do things that way for now.
I have basically zero experience when it comes to this sort of thing so I'm just trying to do my best, and make sure that I listen to people who do have more experience than me like the other mod.

What about an account system where users login with a #tripcode? The tripcode could also work as a capcode on their board that shows their name as "Mod".

Users don't control boards. The untitled boards are an experimental feature that was just supposed to be supplemental to the existing boards. For example if there was an event going on of interest to some board, say comiket, I thought they could just move over to another custom board to discuss it and share files instead of making general threads.

They weren't supposed to be like 8ch's user created boards at all.
Although they seem to be causing more confusion than anything so I might just get rid of them.

Why not go all the way to a tagging system? Effectively threads could be on more than one "board".

So a series that's both anime and manga could have tags for both, plus maybe a tag for the genre or even the series itself.

To avoid spamming, it would make sense to limit the total "popularity" of tags chosen, so a thread could only have something like 2-3 major tags plus a few minor ones.

You'd also want some JS to suggest common tags, and maybe a list of common "synonyms" that get automatically merged/replaced/whatever by the server.
