Over the next few weeks or months I'm going to completely overhaul this site. Please list everything you want to see changed here, including bugs.
On the list so far:
- Fully support browsers with Javascript disabled
- Add sorting threads by creation date to the catalog
- Fix up the Flash board
- Only OP can upload flash
- Smaller max thread count
- Add ability for OP to upload HTML5 applications instead of just flash, screw the consequences we're doing this shit because it sounds fun
- Add /titled/ and /untitled/ (just like /all/ but will only display threads from titled and untitled boards)

Under consideration, let me know your opinion:
- Remove the OP moderation features and password field
- Merge hardware and software boards into just a PC board
- Change programming to development board (can also discuss developing content, or other DIY)

Hmm. Maybe merging /a/ and /ma/?
I mean, I'd love a /ma/ on 4chan, but this place is just too slow.
If you're merging, I think that would be good.
Also, how about an option in the settings for all images posted to selected boards to be spoilered automatically? So I can have ones on porn boards, listed and unlisted, spoilered.
I wouldn't mind, but I don't like gyarus much.

Usually the argument for separate /a/ and /ma/ here was that you could always visit >>/a+ma/
But having less boards in general right now is probably a good idea so a merge sounds good.

The image spoiler thing should be pretty straightforward to implement too.

Arigatou, Admin.
>- Remove the OP moderation features and password field

Yikes, I didn't even know this existed. Please remove.
>- Merge hardware and software boards into just a PC board

Hmm. Might work. Why not just turn it all into a /g/? Just wondering.

As for myself, when I woke up I vowed to make more of my threads and posts on /ho/ instead of untitled boards. Make /ho/ great again.

Would there be a way to disable autospoilered images? So I could see them without clicking on them?

I'm 4, I figure it'd be something you could select various boards for, whichever you want. Since we have untitled boards, and all, and Taba-tan shouldn't have to keep up with which ones are porn and which aren't.

Not a bad idea.

>Would there be a way to disable autospoilered images?

Well as it stands right now the only difference between spoilered and non-spoilered images is that the thumbnail is copied from the generic spoiler image at the moment of upload instead of being generated.
The server itself can't tell which images are spoilered or not after upload.
We could change it, but I'd have to say it's low priority since it's not a trivial fix.

I feel that it is better to keep boards which are currently separate, separate. Having /ma/ separate from /a/, for instance, encourages discussion about manga, without it having to compete with anime. And like being able to browse a board with only anime or only manga.

I agree that they're best separated in the long run, but it's not a bad idea to just have them together for now.
It does seem that newer imageboards with less boards tend to pick up the pace faster than ones with too many boards. Even though we have /all/ to compensate I think it would still be better to merge some things for now.

I don't know if it's really worth mentioning, but the "Contact" link in the FAQ was broken when you did that little language thing, and that's probably the only likely place for people to see it, since BBS users typically skip the front page for efficiency

also, are there any plans to release the board software as it's in progress, or after you're satisfied with it? I think it's great, and I'd hate to see it unused when this site sadly fades into further obscurity (even a black hole can die)

>are there any plans to release the board software as it's in progress

Well in case you weren't aware it's basically always available just via email. I've sent it to a few people who asked.
I guess I've just been wanting to sort of generalize the code a bit before actually uploading it somewhere, so it doesn't have a lot of nuanced crap.

But that would be good to add to the list as well. Just clean it up, with comments or whatever to a point where I'm satisfied uploading it.

Sorry It's been taking so long to make any fixes. Right before working on this I installed a new Linux distro (one of those really niche quirky ones) and have been having difficulty getting apache to work right.

In retrospect that was probably a bad idea.

>Add ability for OP to upload HTML5 applications instead of just flash, screw the consequences we're doing this shit because it sounds fun
I'd strongly recommend putting both these and the Flash files on a separate subdomain so they can't do things like automatically repost themselves or break into the moderation controls. Also, I haven't checked if there's CSRF protection on the posting form right now, but there ought to be.
»
23 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
What would CSRF protection be needed for? HTML5 can be put inside an iframe with a "sandbox" attribute that prevents it from doing anything to the page or the users cookies.

I'm thinking the unlisted boards should just default to text only. Should any of the listed boards be text only? It would be cool if this site could even be usable in non-graphical browsers like lynx or something, so some textboards would be nice.
Also I'm cleaning the code up a lot and making it more generic so when I'm done I'll finally upload it somewhere as open source.

Not that I can think of, no.

I remember two related bugs that I assume are still around:
spoiler tags don't reveal on mouse over
spoiler tags are readable without mousing over when using the dark theme

Oh, also the Del button should ask if you're sure you want to del. Last I used it I noticed it has no warning, so if you accidentally click, you're Del'd.

The mouse hover is not a bug. It's nothing more than setting the background color to black (which is why it messes up on the other theme which doesn't use black text, but I'll fix it), and you just highlight it to see it.
This is how spoilers were always done before some sites started using Javascript to make it easier.
>>27
Yeah this will definitely be fixed too
»
30 Admin 1969-12-31T17:00:00
I just updated the site to a totally restructured version of the code. This should make the other updates easier to do, and should also have fixed the issue with themes (it's just using cookies now to apply the theme). Also the page layout is now making more use of tables instead of divs which could improve the display on some obscure browsers.

Since it's so different please let me know if anything looks weird to you. It might be a good idea to clear your cache too to make sure you are using the updated css files.

I just reloaded, and now my tomorrow theme is gone! What should I do?

32 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00

The settings menu is a little funny right now (I'll have to fix it later), especially since the style was originally saved with localstorage and now it's using cookies, so it might say "Default" even if you have the tomorrow theme selected. But if you just toggle it off and back on to the tomorrow theme it should stick. If not then you might have to clear your cache first

I'll try that later. Right now I'm checking this on my Wii U(Don't criticise me) before bed, and it's acting strangely. I can no longer use the stick to scroll up and down, though using the touch screen works fine. I just thought I'd mention.

Actually I'm thinking about moving it back to the way it was before with divs anyway. I'm testing this out again in some of the obscure browsers I thought it would help, but it's not that much better.

Yeah, scrolling has definitely been affected. On a phone touchscreen, it stops scrolling when I remove my finger, instead of keeping the momentum.

I was the dude that requested the Flash board. Hi! How ya doing!
One thing I wanna say is the flash board is in such an awkward place. The original "Have a thread for 1 topic, such as games, hentai, certain artist, whatever, and people can post in that thread for that topic" thing was great, but some person wanted it like 4chan, so its split up appearance wise. There needs to be a decision between the flash board of 4chan, and original style flash boards, with a topic, instead of 1 flash being the main focus.

Hope this gives insight!

I think you're definitely right, but I'm not sure how to decide which. I'll continue thinking about though or listening to other feedback. What are your thoughts on the HTML5 idea? Do you think those who like flash might be interested in it as a sort of more modern way of making flash-like applications?

42 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
How about push notifications when the threads/boards you're watching get new replies/theads?

43 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Hello!
»
44 Admin 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Just made another update:
* HTML5 applications can now be uploaded. Just name the main html file "main.html" (index.html will be overwritten) and zip it up with all other media. example: >>/f/32/
* Added the theme changes to the top right corner instead of in the setting menu.
* Reverted back to using divs for the layout instead of tables as it messed up some scrolling functions
* Added sorting by thread creation time to the catalog

Also changed the theme of unlisted boards to this one. Hopefully it's not too ugly

Thank you for the hard work.
»
46 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
I'll give another vote to merging boards. /hw/, /sw/, /pr/ and /sci/ could very well be just a single board, as well as /a/, /ma/ and /jp/. Boards (or subforums, as the case may be) should be as few as possible and then split off when there's enough traffic to justify it.
»
47 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>46
You're right. We have more fragmentation than is needed for our population.
»
48 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>47
So, what are your plans regarding this? Will you combine some boards? Which ones? How will you do so?
»
49 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
I think it's okay, since we have the /all/ overboard. All something like that would do is discourage conversation about more obscure subjects, I think
»
50 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>49
A problem still remains though. You forget what threads exist, or a new user just wants to check out some slightly older threads that aren't on the front page of /all/. With less boards you're going to run into more recent threads on average. Plus while you are browsing individual boards they'll each feel more dead.

>>48
Maybe just keep it simple:
anime+manga = /a/
hardware+software+programming = /g/
I want to say merge /lit/ with something but there was actually a fair amount of activity on that board

I've also been wondering if /jp/ should just be a 2D random. Isn't that pretty much what 4chan /jp/ always wanted anyway?
»
51 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>50
/sci/ can also be merged with /g/, /jp/ can be 2D and Japan/random, then we'd have /a/, /jp/, /d/, /g/, /f/, /lit/, /v/, and /ho/.
But, my biggest question is, how will this be done? Will the posts on merged boards by merged? Will they just stay where they are, but be unlisted boards, now? What'll happen?
»
52 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>51
Either way is possible. Merging the threads would probably be best though, and just change the thread numbers
»
53 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>52
If we do rearrange the boards like that, we should change /jp/ to just /j/, /lit/ to just /l/, and /ho/ to just /h/, just to look nicer. Also, we should add history & humanities to /lit/'s subject, to give it more meat.
»
54 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>53
Things currently on unlisted /l/ could be transferred to unlisted /lit/, if this is done.
»
55 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Can we get quote link insertion by clicking on the post numbers? Not having that makes the site feel a little awkward.
