What is your opinion on Virtual Youtubers?

They feel manipulative. Idol anime is the same for me. It produces some cute frames, at least.

I don't know. They're at least better than normal youtubers right? Considering they don't use their actual identity and all.
You gotta respect that at least a little.

thats a good point actually. It is still the standard polished youtube gaming stuff with lots of yelling and a facecam, but at least its just a 3d2d facecam and not the real person.
still, itd depend on your tolerance for the loud youtube gaming shit.

I don't know if I can respect that, but that also might make me a hypocrite,

Kizuna a cute.

The main reason why they're popular is because "cute anime girls", which I honestly think is a dirty trick but TBQH I wouldn't care either if there weren't anime girls; 3dpd

Are their real identities known at all? If not then I don't see how it could be a dirty trick, because what would it be accomplishing other than just having anonymous fun?
But if their identities are known then I could probably agree that it's all pretty cancerous.

It's polished, presented showmanship, and they're making ad money from it aren't they?
»

Ok, this I can agree with. Do any of them not make ad money? Maybe some streamers on nico or something?

Iunno. Maybe i'd like something like this if it was just pure amateur fun, though.

There's a lot of them popping up now, aren't they? Just yesterday or so I saw someone on pawoo go "I've become a virtual youtuber!"

There's also a category of virtual youtubers who use 2D avatars and do little if anything beyond streaming, and may not have too much of a character going on. Here's a few:

Quick jump several months and most of them are low effort 2D streamers or copying each other now. The scene growing too fast too early.

Growing too fast too early?
From the beginning, at the very least with the half popular ones, its youtube moneymaking, and a nonstop stream of low effort is what a lot of people doing that get nudged into.
»
19 名無しさん 2018-10-23T19:56:28
it's stupid and I hate it, for much the same reasons outlined in >>2

It feels weird calling it "low effort" because I know objectively there's actually quite a bit of effort involved in modeling and animating and editing and whatnot. But "low effort" in the creative sense, like not being able to come up with something original and just going "well if I make a cute anime girl and have her talk about video games and nerd shit I bet all those sweaty otaku will throw their money at me".

Too late to really reply, but in relation to >>19-san, virtual-tubers not using the authors real identity isnt a matter of not broadcasting their own irl shit to the internet, its a matter of creating a marketable character.
I mean, I like a few of them better than most normal youtubers just for being..well, a more enjoyable character. Watching other people play video games is a simulation of social interaciton, but if it doesnt feel authentic anyways, Id rather it be moe and cute and exlplicitly, happily fictional than whatever the hell the normal youtuber streamer shit is doing.
But I dont like either that much, so.

They're nice. It's probably because I have a bias towards moe and cute stuff but they manage to make generic youtuber stuff into something much more enjoyable. I'd watch them a lot more often if my Japanese weren't as weak as it is.

Whatever else hiro does, I enjoy the thought of him pissing off the people who irrationally hate anime, without even really meaning to, just because this sort of thing seems normal to him. Culture shock mother fucker.
I wonder if she'll like, do videos reading through popular threads, like they have videos with just a synthesized voice doing audio for 2ch threads here and there.

>synthesized voice

This actually wouldn't be bad. I think just about anything would be better than what's probably going to actually happen (some native English speaking ear-cancer skank spouting "memes")
»
27 名無しさん 2018-10-24T17:16:13
>>26
well, the 2ch thread videos dont involve a personality. I think I saw one read by yukkuri, but that was the most such.
Are the squeaky-girls really so bad though? People who arent used to it think excited japanese girls voices are ear cancer too. Not that I care about her all that much.
Speaking of screeching memes, I wonder what she'll behave like. The best I could hope for would be for her to embody the qualities the rest of the web thinks are why 4chan is bad which are actually its only redeeming qualities. It'll probably just be a pretty normal character with just a bit more of an attitude or something, though.

They are, of course, garbage. Few of them speak English and even fewer appeal to anyone other than straight guys with shit taste.

It pisses me off not because it's anime, but because it's a very specific type of anime I hate
