Depending on which boards you frequent you might not see them. The people posting on 8chan's twitter left me puzzled, the site is so fragmented I never noticed all these Qanon people.

8chong was good for loli and occasional niche boards with cool CSS. The only good small spinoff chans are the ones with batshit insane users. 64chan for example was consistently funny and always changing. I wish it would come back but maki is a broke teenager and basically has no drive

According to various news outlets, the shooter posted on 8ch, but according to Jim, the shooter posted on Instagram first and then had his manifesto reposted to 8ch later.

There's not a single news outlet that actually knows what it's talking about (including "alternative" shit like breitbart), so there's a good chance most of what they're reporting is wrong. But the same time, Jimmy's a really sleezy dude, so I don't trust him either.

Who's telling the truth?

On 8ch the manifesto was posted as a pdf and instagram doesn't accept pdfs. Unless the guy who reposted it is an epin rusemaster it's kinda weird, besides I haven't seen any screencaps of his profile or anything.

>Who's telling the truth?

It's worth noting that NYT and other major news outlets reported that the recent failed Norway mosque shooter posted on 8chan when the site had been offline for over a week. You shouldn't really trust any of them, neither party is credible.

There was an image version floating around as well since it was only 4 pages long.

Supposedly there is a way to convert a set of images on instagram into a pdf. That being said, I don't see why it couldn't have been the same guy posting on both sites.

Seems like it won't come back according to that article: http://archive.is/I4rPC

There's some interesting figures too, I didn't think it was that big.

>8chan had 15,000 boards with millions of content and texts posted daily.

>Watkins said they took action on 967,413 reports where 27 boards were deleted for violating the global rule. A total of 50,032 complete threads were deleted and 3,002 individual files were removed.

>On 2019, 25,689 users were banned from the site.

I'm not happy about this. The large boards were awful, but there were some small boards I really enjoyed reading and posting to, and it saddens me to think that it's all just gone because of an excess of negative attention from news media. They don't complain about major social media sites hosting the exact same information and even worse. It's all so frustrating.

Well, facebook and the like can do what they want, especially if their management makes overtures to enforcing social acceptability.
As much as I detest /pol/, it is bullshit, but at the same time im not really sorry for them. I am sorry for some of the smaller boards though.

Yeah, I'm bummed out because it was really sudden and some boards probably won't ever come back. Luckily there's still endchan or even this place to create boards for niche topics.

That said it also motivated people to build something more resilient to censorship so there's good things in this too.

That makes me really sad. One thing I had been looking forward to for the last while is seeing /jp/'s background image change seasonally. Makes me sad that I'll probably never be able to see that again.

Shit, is it really gone? It's probably been this way for a couple of weeks, but I can't even access it through the IP address now.
I hadn't used it for years, but 8chan was where my homeboard originated (we moved elsewhere after the infinitychan thing), and it was nice to go through all the old threads once in a while. I guess I should have archived the catalog beforehand, but it sucks to hear the all those threads are now gone forever.
So what's the next biggest site that lets you create your own board now? Endchan's dead and I haven't really seen any new boards pop up on it. Is the 'tiny dead board' culture dead after all? I haven't really seen anything similar to post-gamergate 8chan anywhere else on the internet. God I wish I could go back.

Can I get a tally of 8ch /jp/ users in a little subthread here? Just post a little message with "62" in the Email field. I just want to know how urgently I should finish my site already, considering I'm a month past my self-set deadline.
Judging just by glancing at the thread, I'm guessing that >>1 >>2 and >>20 are separate users.

Image/embed expansion and hiding the sidebar are the only features of the site that need JS. Are you sure you can't see a gray little box or something under that post? I just went through the page source, and there's a possibility that subthreads won't appear at all without CSS, would that be the issue?

I see the gray box but it only has one line of text visible. Apparently you can resize it, but this was not apparent until examining the CSS.

Anonymous (Sun)Sep 08 2019 17:33:14
I've seen text that follows a post link on the same line rendered as a quote even in major chans, so I think it's the 'orthodox' behaviour, but I've always found it counter-intuitive. Maybe bring it up at >>>/meta/81 ?

I don't think that'll be necessary considering how few posters 8/jp/ actually has, but if anyone wants to chat, I can be contacted at houston@planetmail.net.

Just to make it clear, I'm the guy working on the thing that looks like a public toilet in that other thread. That's just the test board, the real one will look a bit more like /jp/..

I think I'm going to move away from the wiki stuff and talking like one of those imageboard admins with their head up their ass, it's just kind of uncomfortable.

75 名無しさん 2019-09-13T10:32:28
I don't like the circumstances under which it died, but I'm glad it's dead. It was to imageboards as Reddit was to forums; it overcentralized the culture, basically killing it. As soon as 8ch died, smaller boards sped up an insane amount.
»
76 名無しさん 2019-09-13T11:34:45
>>75
While it's true that the overcentralization was an issue, none of the smaller boards have topical boards with as much material or focus as the ones on there, so I'm still not very happy with its loss. There's still archives of one of the ones I liked, at least, but I really looked forward to seeing the new posts on there.

File: toilet_builds.jpg (JPEG, 524.12 KB, 1236x1614)
Oh yeah, speaking of archives, here's everything I got out of /jp/, it's a board I care for a lot.
A lot of it's missing because 8ch's a buggy mess and you had to go through this process to make a thread not 404, and there's that whole thing where the previous board owner sperged out. I periodically saved the cycling thread and should have everything there up to a certain point, but I'm only going to include that if somebody here wants it. I've also got images for all or most of the threads I've got saved here, but they're too big to upload, I think.
It's very messy, sorry. If any thread looks a little empty, it's probably because I didn't save it enough times. Especially those threads towards the end that are just an OP or only have one or two posts.

For earlier threads, there's programs that promise to download files from web.archive.org, but I've never got them working properly. For that, I'd scrape everything under the "res" directory, and every instance of the index page.

https://0x0.st/zybw.7z - 0x0 upload will only last for about a year, can't upload it here for some reason. If you want a copy after 0x0 deletes it, ask for it here or contact me at houston@planetmail.net. I should have notifications coming from that mailbox indefinitely, so don't be scared to ask 20 years from now, unless I'm dead.

I'm pretty sure what you mean to say is that hating the service because of the users isn't right. I agree with that.

However, there IS stuff wrong with discord that has nothing to do with why most people bash on it. Like the fact that it's a centralized platform and all your data is routed through their servers.
