Worldwide Internet users
Users \t\t\t2005 \t2010 \t2017 \t2019
World population \t6.5 billion \t6.9 billion \t7.4 billion \t7.75 billion
Worldwide \t\t16% \t30% \t48% \t53.6%
In developing world \t8% \t\t21% \t41.3% \t47%
In developed world \t51% \t67% \t81% \t86.6%

It'll be difficult to find them, there are many more people on the Internet than there used to be. All the interesting people were already on it ten years ago, with the exception of new generation users. Most new users are funneled into a shrinking number of centralized corporate websites. If you were an oldfag and migrated to these centralized places, the noise must be deafening.

Where did you get the numbers from? The sheer scale of human population is truly impossible to fathom. I still struggle to believe that a funny cat image can get 10 million+ views in less than a day. How are there that many people looking at something? It boggles the mind.

>All the interesting people were already on it ten years ago

This does seem to be the case, but I wonder if it's just a matter of getting older. Things that are novel and interesting for a 13 year-old getting his first smartphone will certainly greatly outnumber the things a 40 year-old that's been online for 25 years would. He doesn't really have anything to offer the second person, either.

>Where did you get the numbers from?

They're from wikipedia article about the Internet.

>This does seem to be the case

Even with the disconnect between young vs old, the key thing I've noticed is the signal to noise ratio. Many of the once useful commerce websites have turned to shit after a wave of tirdworld scammers. Search engines are saturated with SEO shit or prioritized the big corporate websites.

Many zoomers aspire to be "social media influencers". That term wasn't in widespread use prior to ten years ago; it sounds like marking lingo that leaked into the public lexicon. Is it weird that "social media" existed before the term did?

>I firmly believe anyone who can use a _casual_ site with profile point systems is a normalfag.

I don't think this is true. Someone can hold his nose and dive in, that doesn't make him a normalfag. The definition given by >>13 is the best and clearest one for making sense of the internet.

I can't figure out how the fuck to pan zoomed-in book images on archive.org.
Left-clicking advances the page. Middle-clicking advances the page. Right-clicking opens the context menu. Shift-left clicking, Ctrl-left clicking advances the page. Up advances the page. Down advances the page. Left, right advances the fucking page.

OH FUCKING OKAY it's the scroll wheel. got damn. well i'm going to post this anyway. fuck

I had to stop using DuckDuckGo because
- the Japanese search suggestions were always incredibly pedophilic, despite some basic attempt to filter out obscenity
- the noscript DuckDuckGo gives entirely different, way lower quality results, listing the same unrelated results (manga, always the same titles and websites; or the index pages of porn, dlsite, and booth) for different search queries

I have this obsession with implementing event loops, even when they're completely unnecessary. I don't know why, it's just the style of coding that makes the most sense to me.

I have the tendency (though unintentionally) to create patches of code that keep my program running, but are never called or referenced once by anything else. It becomes bloat since you want to get rid of it, but you can't because for some reason it's vital to the architecture I've created.

ok so if computational processes are beings that inhabit computers, people create programs to conjure those spirits and you have no magical power ability whatsoever then is there any hope for becoming a wizard

I can't believe I have to write spoilers to a textbook, but here it goes. Read at your own peril.

In the last two chapters the curtain is pulled back and you get to see how the wizard's magic works. It's part of the book's "story", they start with saying the computer science is not really a science but has more in common with magic. But this is not approving, they want it to mature into science and they gradually reveal what goes on behind the scene. Early science was also connected to magic and esotericism, hence the alchemist on the cover of the book. I think it is fitting because many people seem to be stuck in the "programming is reciting spells" phase for an embarrassing amount of time.

But yes, if you read SICP, it will teach you what you need to know to become a wizard and more.

I highly recommend using cloudflare's csam scanning tool to stop illegal images from appearing on your site. It also helps to block proxies as well. I think as an imageboard community we can stop this shit but we need to start taking measures to put an end to it. If you want to step away from your board for awhile don't leave posting open. It will get spammed. Just put it in read only until you come back.

And yes, I'm posting this on all the imageboards I find. No I'm not a bot.

Great, I've obviously been ghosted.

This cloudflare feature is basically a none feature, but nonetheless, a way to deal with this CSAM is required for this site to keep existing in my hands.

What's your main browser? I use five-six browsers like it's still the 2000s because some browsers blacklist flash but are more efficient to use, while others don't blacklist things but have shitty adblock and horrible design

finally switched from pale moon to ungoogled chromium
for some reason I had been having some serious performance issues with pale moon and it would often freeze for a couple seconds after I open a new website. I thought it would take forever to switch browsers (which is why it took so long for me to ditch palemoon), but is has been surprisingly easy so I'm glad for that.
Overall I'm hoping that webbrowser fixes all the issues I had with palemoon because I still prefer the firefox style over chromium

Pi network is a cryptocurrency that you can earn with your phone, just install the "Pi network" app on your phone, enter the code "Berssange" and enter the app once a day to prove that you are not a bot and that's it, you’ll earn an amount of currency per hour, the app is lightweight and doesn’t waste resources, the currency is new and priceless, it’s a good time to enter, then just sell the currency when it enters the market.
Good opportunity to get Pi for free and profit much later.

Heyo /ho/, it's almost 2022. Who's still here? I mean, aside from that yuriposter guy from kissu. I don't think this site is active enough to attract regular members, and the guys from the past that said they loved slow boards have all disappeared as well. It's weird that I could probably count the amount of threads made this year with my fingers. I always check this site at least once a month, and it's become a habit to check it frequently (about once a day) during the cold seasons. I know a majority of the old crowd dipped when OG admin stepped down, but some of you guys are still here, right? Oh, but speaking of the old admin, what happened with him? I recall some people asking for his email. Has anyone contacted him and asked about newer projects in the works, or just about how his life has been going in general? Anyhow, back on topic. How's it going, gang?

I still talk to the old admin on occasion. He's still working on his new project.

I migrated to kissu. I don't remember when that happened but I think it was around the time the old admin announced he was stepping down. I know kissu is not the same thing and I miss 4taba, but this site is too inactive.

Don't worry, 4taba .
You're invited to the New Year's Eve party, too.
We didn't forget you. You'll always have a special place in our hearts.
You'll be coming to play Gikopoi with us on Friday night... right....? Right 4taba..? You're not going to let us down?

> Main event:

Midnight, EST time (-0500)

You should win prizes by logging in. 100 consecutive daily logins and you win a new graphics card.
Other than that, I can't think of anything other than click-avatar-to-ignore. Maybe there was a new way to ignore people I didn't see.

How do you make your speech bubble disappear? If I say something it floats forever,
»
10 Player 2022-01-24T15:22:44
>speech bubble
hit enter once more after sending your message
after you write something just hit enter twice instead of once
