Over the next few weeks or months I'm going to completely overhaul this site. Please list everything you want to see changed here, including bugs.
On the list so far:
- Fully support browsers with Javascript disabled
- Add sorting threads by creation date to the catalog
- Fix up the Flash board
- Only OP can upload flash
- Smaller max thread count
- Add ability for OP to upload HTML5 applications instead of just flash, screw the consequences we're doing this shit because it sounds fun
- Add /titled/ and /untitled/ (just like /all/ but will only display threads from titled and untitled boards)

Under consideration, let me know your opinion:
- Remove the OP moderation features and password field
- Merge hardware and software boards into just a PC board
- Change programming to development board (can also discuss developing content, or other DIY)

/sci/ can also be merged with /g/, /jp/ can be 2D and Japan/random, then we'd have /a/, /jp/, /d/, /g/, /f/, /lit/, /v/, and /ho/.
But, my biggest question is, how will this be done? Will the posts on merged boards by merged? Will they just stay where they are, but be unlisted boards, now? What'll happen?

52 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>51
Either way is possible. Merging the threads would probably be best though, and just change the thread numbers
»
53 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>52
If we do rearrange the boards like that, we should change /jp/ to just /j/, /lit/ to just /l/, and /ho/ to just /h/, just to look nicer. Also, we should add history & humanities to /lit/'s subject, to give it more meat.
»
54 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>53
Things currently on unlisted /l/ could be transferred to unlisted /lit/, if this is done.
»
55 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Can we get quote link insertion by clicking on the post numbers? Not having that makes the site feel a little awkward.

We should have themes for 4taba.
I like this default one, but I still think we should have options.

Like I always say, the code is available to anyone, just email me for it and I'll send it.

But my plan has always been to finalize and upload it somewhere once I worked out the last paragraph here >>/qa/1/8
Can't really upload imageboard software and call it usable without automatic thread deletion. I need to do some local testing, I just keep putting it off because the sites so slow that it's not really even needed yet
»
4 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>3
Also if anyone is interested in actually starting up their own imageboard with it let me know and maybe I'll try a little harder to finalize things

The other advantage is making it easier for users to contribute. I wouldn't expect people to start writing major features (although it could happen, especially if someone wants to use it for another board), but there are often minor details that could easily be fixed if the people who cared enough to fix it were simply given the opportunity.

Take for example 4chan's flag issues:

Only one of those methods is better than email: IRC
»
6 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>5
Agreed. IRC is the only one of those I would actually do.

Someone created a 4taba IRC, but I never joined it because I didn't want things to turn into a circlejerk. I probably should join it though, it would be much nicer than email.
»
7 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00

It was never a circlejerk, but it was pretty quiet.
I should join again: I haven't recently.

Could we get an informative error message when a post is too long? I tried to make a longish post and it took me a while to figure out what was going wrong.

Also, increasing the maximum post length would be nice, at least when there is SJIS involved. As it stands, there's some fine SJIS art that can't be posted.

Each of the categories should have an alias; for example, something like /g/ or /comp/ would be equivalent to /hw+sw+pr/. Also the post form on a multiboard index should have a way to select the board your posting to.

Why not yontaba? Less bad luck and doesn't look like "shit".
»
2 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00

I know how it's supposed to be pronounced, but I just pronounce it fourtaba in my head. Same thing for sage. I just pronounce it like the leaf, instead of sa-gay.
»
3 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Even though the shorthand "4taba" implies that it's shi+taba it's really supposed to be
shita + ba = lower leaves
So it kind of has a double meaning I guess
»
4 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
>>3
Oh ok. I didn't really think of what the "taba" was supposed to mean.

3 Anonymous 1969-12-31T17:00:00
Considering the little "Gentoo powered" tag at the bottom, my bet is that it's running on a VPS. I also recall reading that the board software was custom made by the admin specifically for this site.
