Nevermind, it works. Only when I right-click and select "Save Link", not when I use this browser's built-in downloader.

I can only assume that you haven't put those changes through yet. As one example, https://22chan.org/f/ appends "&=FILENAME" to the end of each file. That might work as a quick and dirty solution, which isn't required here, but you might want something more elegant.

Actually that makes me think that we could do both. Since setting that download attribute seems to prevent it from opening the image for viewing inside the browser itself anyway, we could make it so that clicking the thumbnail will open the image inside the browser as normal, but clicking on the filename link above the thumbnail could have the download="actual_filename.jpg" attribute.
If that works then that's an easy 10 second fix. I'll do some testing with a few different browsers and if it works then I'll add it to the new server.

By the way, the new site is basically ready to deploy. But I'm also switching hosts from A2 to DigitalOcean (which has more up-to-date servers, A2 is still using kernel version 2 on their VPS's), so the site may go down some time tonight or tomorrow, and be off for several hours as I move all the data to the new server and update the DNS info.

>we could make it so that clicking the thumbnail will open the image inside the browser as normal, but clicking on the filename link above the thumbnail could have the download="actual_filename.jpg" attribute.
That sounds good, it would've been bad if you couldn't expand the thumbnails anymore. I don't think left-clicking on a normal link will download it, so this is basically the way it'll be in the end.

Media expands.
>(middle) click on link, middle click on thumbnail

Media opens in new tab. (non-original filename if user saves here)
>right click → save on link

Image saves with filename.

Is it just me or is this site getting a lower amount of posts everyday? I always check here after work and today there's only been about three or four posts. I know this is one of the niche IBs hipster kids click on when they browse creamy's list and then forget about forever but still, imageboards are most active during the summer. If this is the amount of people that use this site in July I fear how many posts there will be in a few months

3 Anonymous 2019-08-21T00:54:12
It's difficult because of the mixed-style thing going on when you view threads from multiple boards (like on /all/, or combining boards like /ni+ho/)

But I guess it would be easy to add new styles if I just ignored that (sort of like how the Tomorrow theme just applies 1 theme on every board).
Also, I suck at coming up with themes. Do you have any in mind? Maybe post some links to sites with styles you like.

Why is it still "email" and not "option"?

I mean I know why; it's obviously for the sake of tradition, but I honest to god think it's been at least half a decade since anyone has been dumb enough to put their email in

Sorry if I sound autistic, but it's just a pet peeve of mine

Nothing.
I wasn't around back when 4chan had an email field, but if you look at old /jp/ posts, you see people putting their actual emails all the time, as a means to contact others. I blame me not having any internet friends on moot removing the email field.

25 Anonymous 2019-07-15T07:42:58

Because people who used the field for their actual email forgot the "anonymous" part and put in their real emails.

They're like a more explicit form of sage, that ideally could avoid the "downvote" issue (since they don't contribute to post count, and have low visibility making it clear that the user is diminishing the status of their own posts as opposed to the one they're replying to)
To make one all you do is put the post number you want to reply to in the email field.

How much storage is currently being used?
How many files are currently being stored?
How many posts have been made?
How many posts per day?
How many unique IPs have posted?
How many unique IP visits per day?
How many threads have been made?
How many boards have been made?
Which OS does the server run?
How much are the running costs?

Thanks.

>How many threads have been made?

2,519 + 734 deleted threads (491 of these seem to be a /qa/ spammer going for the 500 GET) = 3,253
>How many boards have been made?

148, not including /pr which is totally wiped when whatever bot was let off the leash decides to post on it again. There might be more unlisted boards that were wiped completely.

Can't answer questions related to media, I haven't found a good way to automate cloning them yet, and I'm not really sure I can spare 10 GB for them with my current setup.
»
4 Anonymous 2019-03-26T01:36:25
Oh, I can't count any new threads or boards since last time I cloned the board though, and that was only when I made that deleted threads thread.

Made a counting mistake, forgot to not include the .orig files I made with wget. It should actually be about 1,259+734, 1993.

Are you archiving the site, or did you just write some script to gather info?
If archiving I wonder if I can make things easier, like having a link that'll return a database dump (with things such as IP's removed of course)
»
7 Anonymous 2019-03-26T20:10:37
>>6
It's just a habitual thing I like to do for smaller messageboards. Having a dump could be handy for images, like I said I haven't found a handy way to copy those yet. Probably don't have the space for them though. I have to wonder, what's the point in using a database with a floating-style board like this? You can just see what the latest thread/post number is and add one.

The validators are actually useful, and can lead to more accessible websites in ALL browsers. W3C was good too before WHATWG (the html5 people) de facto took it over. RIP XHTML, I wish it succeeded.

CSS is really good though. You can do way more shit with way less boilerplate, meaning more choice in design with less server overhead. It's also a logical progression of the original idea behind the web, which was to be a way of displaying documents with multimedia content a-la hypercard

i made a list of boards i think 4taba should have. obviously untitled boards mean we can have whatever we want but it would still be a good idea to expand the official selection.

key:
>black - board already exists

>yellow - board exists as an untitled board but should be made official

>red - board doesn't exist

most of these are self-explanatory as 4chan has them already. the only really unique ones are /im/ (internet media) and /io/ (images only). /im/ would basically be a version of /tv/ for youtubers and podcasts, as well as allowing for discussion about creating your own content. /io/ is a suggestion i saw on /qa/ a while ago and i thought it sounded neat. basically it's the opposite of a text-only board like /news/ - no words (not even in the title), only images. interesting to see what would happen

thoughts?

From a personal, selfish point of view; I'm very glad a politics board was never added. I've yet to see anything be touched by current politics and not be irrevocably ruined. There's a reason Politics was considered taboo in polite conversation, and it seems even impolite conversation cannot handle politics.

Yea, I'd rather not have politics either. Politics tend to lead to non-comfy conversations.
Also, I'm actually quite content with the boards we currently have. If you were to add another board, a music or literature would be fine.
